The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that the final Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for September 2024 will be made today. SSI recipients should note that payments are usually scheduled for the first day of each month. If the date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is moved to the preceding business day. For September, SSI payments were made on August 1st and August 30th.
Upcoming SSI Payment Dates
For the rest of the year, the SSI payment schedule is as follows:
- October 2024: Tuesday, October 1st
- November 2024: Friday, November 1st
- November (December 2024): Friday, November 29th
- December 2024 (January 2025): Tuesday, December 31st
Recipients should wait at least three mailing days before contacting SSA if a payment is not received on the scheduled date. The monthly benefits include a 3.4% increase from the previous year’s cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
SSI Payment Amounts by Filing Category
In 2024, SSI payment amounts are as follows:
- Individuals: Average of $698, up to $943 per month.
- Couples: Up to $1,415 per month.
- Essential Person (EP) Category: An additional $472 per month, subject to specific conditions set by SSA.
Simplified SSI Application Process
Starting June 22, 2024, SSA will simplify the SSI and SSDI application process by reducing the work history examination period from fifteen years to five years. This change aims to enhance customer service, reduce wait times, and lower administrative costs. The update will streamline the determination of eligibility and focus on recent employment activity.
