A vacant building in east Kansas City, Missouri, was engulfed in flames on Wednesday morning.

According to a press release from the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD), a fire was reported at approximately 11 a.m.

Firefighters quickly responded to find a vacant two-story building in the 5100 block of east 27th Street engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

Several hose lines were pulled into the building by firefighters to extinguish the fire, while additional fire crews conducted a search for any individuals inside. Fortunately, no occupants were discovered within the premises.

After a few minutes of the firefight, the incident commander of the department made the decision to evacuate everyone from the burning building due to concerns over the potential collapse of the roof. Approximately 10 minutes later, the roof indeed collapsed.

There were no reported injuries.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by noon, although they will remain at the scene to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
