Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, alongside South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, is leading a multistate coalition calling on the United States Senate to approve former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the 87th Attorney General. Bondi, Florida’s first female attorney general, held the position for eight years and has nearly two decades of prosecutorial expertise.

The group, which comprises 27 attorneys general and two attorneys general-elect, focuses on Bondi’s historic achievements in Florida. These include the destruction of pill mills, a zero-tolerance policy toward human trafficking, the elimination of the backlog of untested sexual assault kits, and the National Mortgage Settlement, which will secure billions of dollars.

Attorney General Ashley Moody praised Bondi, calling her a trailblazer and committed public servant.

“Pam Bondi is a proven leader and fighter for justice. After her work over nearly two decades of prosecuting murderers and standing up for crime victims, she became Florida’s first female Attorney General and took the fight straight to the drug smugglers, human traffickers and serial rapists,” said Moody. “Attorney General Bondi shut down pill mills, put human traffickers behind bars and fought to eliminate the backlog of untested sexual assault kits – to bring predators to justice and some sense of closure to victims of rape. Her stellar record as an attorney general, state prosecutor and fighter for justice has prepared her to serve as the nation’s 87th U.S. Attorney General and we look forward to a swift, successful confirmation.”

Pam Bondi was first elected as Florida’s attorney general in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. During her tenure, Bondi garnered recognition for her vigorous efforts to curb drug misuse, human trafficking, and predatory behavior. President-elect Donald Trump nominated her for US Attorney General, stressing her dedication to justice and substantial law enforcement expertise.

In a letter to Senate leadership, Moody, Wilson, and their coalition touted Bondi’s accomplishments as attorney general.

“As Florida Attorney General, General Bondi spent eight years working tirelessly to protect the health and safety of the people of Florida. During the worst days of the opioid crisis, she demonstrated extraordinary leadership, working with the Florida Legislature to shut down pill mills, initiating litigation to hold bad actors accountable, and taking many other actions designed to curb drug abuse, including championing bans on synthetic drugs. She was also a fierce advocate against human trafficking, leading efforts to increase tools for prosecutors to protect victims and hold traffickers accountable.”

The letter also praised Bondi’s national leadership, particularly her work in securing the $56 billion National Mortgage Settlement, which helped several states.

Attorneys general from 27 different states, including Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia, among others, join Moody. The coalition emphasizes Bondi’s background, arguing that her leadership and expertise make her uniquely equipped to address the nation’s most critical issues.

If confirmed, Bondi would bring substantial prosecutorial and leadership expertise to the Department of Justice, where she will supervise federal law enforcement activities, including combating the opioid epidemic and human trafficking. The coalition’s backing indicates a strong push for her confirmation as the country’s next attorney general.
