Anticipating Arctic Cold: Examining Winter Scenarios on the Horizon

The state of Texas is buzzing with rumors on social media about a potential winter wonderland next week.

The forecast for New Year’s Day didn’t quite live up to its snowy expectations. However, this time around, there seems to be something more significant about this Arctic intrusion and the potential impact it could have on precipitation.

Snow in Texas is a rare occurrence, especially outside of the Panhandle region. However, there are instances when we do witness snowfall in the state. This usually happens when a surge of cold Arctic air combines with a moisture-laden system from the Pacific.

Our American model has been favoring this solution for a few days now. Another long-range model, which has proven to be reliable, shows the upper level low completely out of sync with the cold air and moisture. As a result, we might experience a bone-dry week ahead.

There are several reasons why this forecast is not certain, but there is enough consistency and plausibility in the weather patterns to at least consider the possibility of wintry precipitation in the middle of next week.
