A California Teacher Died From A Rare, 99.9% Fatal Infection After Touching A Bat In Her Classroom

Tragically, a Central Valley teacher died after touching a bat she found in her classroom.

According to reports, the teacher was trying to help the bat escape without causing injury. Instead of contacting animal control, she attempted to carry it outdoors on her own.

For weeks, everything looked to be fine. She eventually became ill.

Unknowingly, a bat had bitten her. Unfortunately, the bite caused her to get rabies.

According to the CDC, rabies kills nearly 99.9% of cases. Prompt immunization after a bite can prevent it, but once the disease sets in, it is almost always fatal.

Regrettably, the circumstances surrounding the California teacher were dire. She entered a medical coma but passed away last week.

This heartbreaking story also serves as a sharp reminder of the perils of dealing with wildlife. If you observe a wild animal in your house or workplace, do not attempt to handle it. Please contact the authorities.

The CDC advises you to seek medical attention immediately if you suspect a wild animal has bitten you. Immediate care can save your life.
