Ashford Man Charged Following Domestic Dispute and Crash into Creek

ASHFORD, NY — A domestic dispute in Ashford led to a crash when a passenger allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a creek, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on December 22, 2024, at approximately 11:12 p.m., when 31-year-old Quenton J. Benoit, a passenger in the vehicle, reportedly took control of the wheel during a disagreement with the driver.

This action caused the vehicle to leave Dutch Hill Road and crash into a nearby creek. Benoit sustained injuries and was treated at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.

After receiving medical care, Benoit was arrested by the Town of Hamburg Police Department and transferred to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

He was processed at the Delevan Substation and arraigned in the Town of Yorkshire Court. Benoit faces charges of Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ashford Court at a later date.

As with all individuals accused of a crime, Benoit is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
