The near southeast side of Indianapolis is currently grappling with a perplexing mystery surrounding the discovery of a deceased woman’s body in the nearby woods. The mother of a child from the area is seeking answers and closure to this heart-wrenching incident.

According to the victim’s family, they were given a tip suggesting that the woman might have been located in a forested area situated behind a food distribution center on South Keystone.

On Sunday, the family went out to search and discovered the deceased woman inside a storage tote.

Tara Capps, a 36-year-old woman, was identified by her family.

Virginia Summers, the mother of the victim, expressed the difficulty of the situation by stating, “It’s a tough situation. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through this.”

According to Summers, her oldest daughter was identified through her fingerprints.

It remains unclear to the family how long the victim had been in the woods before being found.

Summers expressed her strong disapproval towards the incident, stating that the perpetrator’s actions were monstrous and unjustifiable. “She did not deserve it,” she added firmly.

Surprisingly, the family had been tirelessly searching for Capps in the vicinity of the woods for an entire week before the horrifying discovery was made.

Summers empathized with the families who had to endure such an ordeal, stating that it was the ultimate tragedy that could befall anyone.

Officer William Young from IMPD shared that the investigation began as a search for a missing person.

According to police reports, Capps was reported missing by her family on June 30th.

Although the authorities are considering the incident as a homicide, they have not yet disclosed any details regarding the perpetrator or the reason behind the crime.

Young expressed that the investigation is still in progress and he remains optimistic that they will gather the necessary information to hold those responsible accountable.

Summers expressed her hope that the authorities will apprehend the individuals responsible for the heinous act. She emphasized that no one should ever have to go through such a traumatic experience.

Capps’ mother passionately urged the public to come forward with any information they may have on the unresolved murder case.

Summers is determined to continue the fight for justice, no matter how long it takes. In a passionate statement, Summers declared, “I won’t stop. I don’t care if it’s 10 years or 20 years. I will not stop. Until I die, I won’t stop until we have justice. I will not stop.” This unwavering commitment to the cause is a testament to Summers’ strength and dedication.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please reach out to Detective Ingram at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling (317) 327-3475 or sending an email to Jeremy.ingram@indy.gov.

If individuals wish to remain anonymous while providing information, they have the option to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 or (TIPS).
