Mississippi Sales Tax Holiday Eases Back-to-School Shopping for Parents, Here’s how much you can save

Mississippi residents can expect to enjoy lower prices on July 12 through July 14 as the state observes a sales tax holiday. This applies to shoppers across the state, including those in Pine Belt.

Starting from 12:01 a.m. next Friday until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a temporary suspension of sales taxes on clothing, footwear, and school supplies that cost less than $100.

Some parents in the Pine Belt area will benefit from an earlier-than-usual holiday this year. This is especially helpful for those whose children will be returning to school as early as July 22.

April Jordan believes that the early start of school is advantageous for her, especially since she has two children. She finds it helpful and thinks that moving the start time a little earlier is a definite advantage.

As the cost of living continues to rise and school supply lists become longer, families with multiple children are particularly grateful.

Bryce Hantla, a parent of four children, eagerly anticipates any opportunity to buy clothes for his kids at a discounted price.

Some parents are hesitant to go shopping during the sales tax holiday due to the expected large crowds.

Chris Jordan compared the promotional offer to Black Friday, stating, “It’s kind of like Black Friday, where it’s like ‘Hey you can save 10 percent’ and I’m like ‘OK…’”

Grandparents, who have their own cherished memories of this time of year with their children, expressed their joy in seeing things become a bit easier for parents.

Valerie Craig expressed her love for school shopping, stating that it was an enjoyable experience for her and her children. She enjoyed gathering all the necessary supplies and found it to be a fun activity for the family.

“I feel a bit disappointed that we won’t be able to do it this year. However, we remain optimistic and look forward to seizing the opportunity when our turn comes again.”

This holiday season, you can get amazing discounts on a wide range of items. You can purchase baby clothes, backpacks, athletic wear, shoes, scout uniforms, and casual footwear or boots at reduced prices. All these items are eligible for the special holiday discount. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to grab great deals on high-quality products!

If the full priced item is less than $100, other in-store deals such as buy one, get one free items will also be exempt from taxes.
