USPS seeking to recruit mail carriers for rural communities

On Thursday, Hattiesburg hosted one of the 37 job fairs organized by the United States Postal Service across two states. (WDAM) reported this event.

The USPS recently conducted job fairs in Alabama and Mississippi with the aim of hiring workers to serve over 100 cities.

The postal service is currently seeking out rural carriers and associate rural carriers to deliver mail in various locations such as Ellisville, Hattiesburg, Laurel, Purvis, and Tylertown.

According to Brad Bozeman, the postmaster at the Hattiesburg Sorting and Delivery Center, the recent staffing increase is in line with the ‘Delivering for America Plan’ initiated by the postmaster general, as part of their efforts to gear up for the peak season.

Rural carriers are primarily scheduled to work weekdays, but associate rural carriers should be prepared to work weekends as well. Bozeman reports that the starting pay for this position is approximately $20.83 per hour.

Bozeman acknowledged the changing job market and economy, stating that people are eager to work but also need different types of jobs. He pointed out that the traditional staffing models that worked in the past are no longer effective in retaining staff.

“We aim to provide employment opportunities to those individuals who are seeking work in specific locations or during particular hours.”
