33 Utah Firefighters Will Deploy In Oregon Under Emergency Compact Law

The Utah Department of Public Safety has announced that 33 skilled firefighters from Utah will be deployed to Oregon in response to a specific request made through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. This move comes as Utah steps up to offer aid and support to Oregon during these trying times.

According to the DPS, a total of nine fire departments across Utah are sending their firefighters to aid in the ongoing emergency response efforts. The team is scheduled to depart from West Valley on Sunday after 2 p.m., and they will be deployed for approximately 16 days. The group will be composed of two task force leaders, two task force leader trainees, and additional support personnel to assist in the mission.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated that even though this group is being deployed, Utah still has the necessary resources to combat fires within its territory. The DPS further added that the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) group can be recalled if required, during their deployment.

As per the DPS’s Division of Emergency Management, Utah provided additional resources to Oregon in exchange for financial reimbursement, which was accepted by the latter. Consequently, the fire departments of Draper, Provo, West Valley City, Murray, Park City, Orem, North Tooele County, and Weber County, along with the Unified Fire Authority, dispatched eight engines and two water tenders to Oregon.

Utah’s success in recent years has prompted the DPS to make a request for assistance.

The DPS stated that Utah is fully prepared and eager to provide assistance to any state that requires it.
