Work continues on Iowa State Fairgrounds

DES MOINES — Wet weather delayed construction at the Iowa State Fairgrounds this spring, but spokeswoman Mindy Williamson says the work continues. “If you drive by the fairgrounds today, you would see some construction going on along the west end of the fairgrounds. Some out into our north parking lot. That is construction of a road and a new entry gate,” Williamson says.

She says the work is part of the continuing upgrading of the facility. “We call it gate 13. A couple years we redid gate 15 out of the north parking lot and this is gate 13,” Williamson says. “Along the west end of the fairgrounds there will be some new and different displays this year.”

Williamson says they should be on schedule to have the work ready for this year’s edition. “We always get asked what our dedline is for construction here on the fairgrounds. And it is opening day,” she says, “and whether we have to work long hours or 24 hours, we definitely shoot to get it all done by opening day.”

This year’s Iowa State Fair is August 8th through the 18th.
