Woman Dies After Wreck on Mississippi 15 Bypass Thanksgiving Morning

A woman from Little Rock tragically lost her life in a collision on the Mississippi 15 bypass at Fork Road the morning after Thanksgiving.

Lauren G. Stewart, 20, died following the crash that occurred at 6:15 a.m. on Friday, November 29, when her Chevrolet pickup collided with a large box truck, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons.

The incident took place as Stewart was attempting to turn left onto Highway 15 while heading west on Fork Road, while the truck, traveling southbound, struck her vehicle. Investigators believe Stewart was making the turn when the collision occurred.

The driver of the box truck, a 42-year-old man from Sturgis, sustained serious injuries. He was first taken to Neshoba General Hospital and later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. As of Tuesday morning, Chief Lyons had no further updates on his condition.

Traffic was backed up for more than five hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The box truck, owned by Clark Beverage, was carrying a full load of beverages at the time of the crash.
