IOWA CITY — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says there is no panic as the Hawkeyes get set to host 10th ranked Penn State Saturday night. Quarterback Nate Stanley was sacked eight times and the offense suffered a number of negative plays in a 10-3 loss at Michigan.

Ferentz says a loss like that will test a player’s toughness.

Iowa’s defense played well against the Wolverines but the challenge gets even more difficult this week.

Penn State coach James Franklin says the 10th ranked Nittany Lions face a difficult test when they visit 17th ranked Iowa. Two years ago a fourth ranked Penn State team used a walk-off touchdown to escape Kinnick Stadium with a 23-21 win.

Junior Sean Clifford replaces Trace McSorley at quarterback and the Nittany Lion offense has not missed a beat. The junior is completing 67 percent of his passes and has 12 touchdowns.

Franklin says Clifford has the leadership qualities needed in a quarterback.

Kickoff at Kinnick Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 on Saturday night, with the pre-game at 4:30 on KGLO. You can hear “Hawk Talk” with Kirk Ferentz tonight at 6:30 on KGLO.

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says the Cyclones had to learn how to handle expectations. After opening with a 2-2 record the Cyclones rolled to a lopsided win over TCU and now prepare to visit West Virginia.

The mobility of quarterback Brock Purdy has jump started Iowa State’s run game. Purdy rushed for 102 yards and a couple of touchdowns in the win over TCU.

Campbell says Purdy’s mobility puts pressure on the defense.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 11 o’clock.

CEDAR FALLS — The head coach has changed but the results have not at North Dakota State as the top ranked Bison get set to host a Northern Iowa team that is ranked 10th in the latest FCS poll. Matt Entz was elevated to head coach after Chris Klieman left to take over at Kansas State. They are off to a 5-0 start.

That’s UNI coach Mark Farley who says North Dakota State has been impressive in the opening month of the season.

This game will match a UNI run defense that is giving up 95 yards per game against a Bison run game that is averaging 288 per contest.

Kickoff in Fargo is scheduled for 1 o’clock on Saturday
