MARSHALLTOWN — The Mason City High girls never looked back after taking a 24-6 lead after the first quarter as they beat Marshalltown 85-22 in CIML Iowa Conference girls basketball last night, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com. Reggi Spotts had 21 while Jada Williams added 18 to lead the Mohawks, who are now 1-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Marshalltown boys picked up their first win of the season, beating Mason City 56-44, as you also heard on KGLO. Corey Miner had 27 of Mason City’s 44 points as the Mohawks drop to 2-7 overall. Both Mason City teams will host Fort Dodge on Friday night.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Iowa State fought back from a 15 point second half deficit but lost at 4th-ranked Texas 78-72 on Tuesday night.

Cyclone coach Steve Prohm. ISU led early 16-10 but the Longhorns took control with a 10-0 run and led by 10 at the break.

Javan Johnson had a career high 21 points to lead the Cyclones who host 18th ranked Texas Tech this weekend.

The Cyclones are 0-4 in the Big 12 and 2-6 overall.

 

 

IOWA CITY — The Iowa Hawkeye women return to Big Ten action tonight by hosting Minnesota. Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says it is difficult to get a read on a Gopher team that is 2-4 and coming off an overtime win against Wisconsin.

The Hawkeyes are 7-1 and averaging 92 points per game.

Freshman point guard Caitlin Clark has become an immediate leader for Iowa. She is averaging better than 26 points per game and has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week five times.

The pre-game starts at 5:45 with tipoff between Iowa and Minnesota at 6 o’clock on AM-1300 KGLO tonight.
