MASON CITY — In a recent vote, the presidents of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference institutions confirmed there will be no spectators allowed at all indoor athletic events to start the spring 2021 season.

Indoor athletic events would include basketball, bowling, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, volleyball and wrestling. It would also stretch over to any baseball, soccer or softball games moved to be played inside.

Student-athletes, coaches, and necessary staff will be the only personnel allowed at indoor events.

As in the fall for all outdoor events, allowing spectators will be up to the discretion of the host.

The decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of conference student-athletes as well as providing the best opportunity to compete and complete their spring 2021 seasons. The conference institutions will continue to evaluate COVID-19 and may review allowing spectators in the future.

IOWA CITY — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the Hawkeyes feel fortunate to have played their full complement of games. Half of the teams in the Big Ten have had one or more games cancelled and the Hawkeyes take a 4-2 record on the road to Illinois.

After two frustrating losses to open the season the Hawkeyes have won four straight.

Ferentz says the Hawkeyes take on an Illinois team that has also improved after a slow start.

A concern is an Illinois run game that is averaging 222 yards per game.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 2:30, with the pre-game at 12:30 on KGLO.

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is confident his team is not satisfied. After clinching at least a share of the Big 12 title the 12th-ranked Cyclones close out the regular season at home against West Virginia.

Campbell says at 5-3 the Mountaineers have been playing at a high level.

It will be the final home game for a senior class that has been a big part in the turn around of the program.

Iowa State will allow a limited number of fans at Saturday’s game but for the most part this season has unfolded while the program has been socially distanced from its hungry fan base.
