Ventura woman surrenders pharmacist license after charged with numerous violations

MASON CITY — A Ventura woman working for a pharmacy connected to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City has voluntarily surrendered her license and been fined after being charged with numerous violations.

According to a final order issued by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, Megan Elsbury was charged with: 19 counts of diverting prescription drugs from a pharmacy for her personal use or distribution; 19 counts of forging or altering a prescription; 19 counts of obtaining, possessing, or attempting to obtain or possess prescription drugs without lawful authority; and one count of failure to report a criminal conviction within 30 days of adjudication.

The order says Elsbury while working at the MercyOne Long-Term Care Facility in October and December of 2022 obtained a total of 480 codeine tablets and 120 alprazolam tablets for her personal use or resale.

Elsbury also is accused between December of 2022 and January of this year while working at Forest Park Pharmacy obtained 866 various prescription tablets and did not deliver them to their assigned patients.

Elsbury also failed to report an operating while intoxicated conviction from December 21st 2022.

The order states that Elsbury agrees to voluntarily surrender her license to resolve the matter and that she pay a civil penalty of $5000.
