UPDATE — Charles City man treated and released after being rescued from Winnebago River after accident

PORTLAND — A Charles City man has been identified as the person involved in a single-vehicle accident with his vehicle ending up in the Winnebago River near Portland Tuesday morning.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says 18-year-old Gael Salcedo was northbound on County Road S-56, also known as Thrush Avenue, when he encountered a snow-covered patch of roadway just south of the bridge near Claybanks Drive. Salcedo lost control of the vehicle with it traveling into the east ditch, and the momentum carried it over the embankment and into the river.

Salcedo was rescued by the Mason City Fire Department and transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
