DETROIT (AP) — The Minnesota Twins’ path to the playoffs is getting a boost on the road.

IOWA CITY — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the knee injury suffered by star left tackle Alaric Jackson was not as serious as feared. Jackson was injured on Iowa’s second possession in a 38-14 win over Miami of Ohio.

The Hawkeyes now set their sights on an early Big Ten opener this weekend when they host Rutgers.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 11 o’clock, with the pre-game at 9:00 AM on AM-1300 KGLO

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is hopeful running back Kene Nwangwu and center Colin Newell will be ready for a September 14th game against Iowa. Nwangwu suffered a hamstring injury in camp and Newell injured a knee in Saturday’s triple overtime win against Northern Iowa.

Campbell says Newell’s injury should not be long term.

Campbell says if Newell were to miss any games they have the depth to handle his loss.

The Cyclones are off this week before hosting Iowa on September 14th.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — A person with direct knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that former Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

The person spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal had not yet been signed. Doctson, cut on Saturday by Washington after three underwhelming seasons, will reunite with quarterback Kirk Cousins in Minnesota.

The 26-year-old Doctson will essentially replace Laquon Treadwell, who was drafted one spot behind him in the first round at No. 23 in 2016. The Vikings waived Treadwell on Saturday, too, after just three unproductive seasons. Doctson has 81 receptions for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns for his career, compared to 56 catches, 517 yards and one score for Treadwell. An Achilles tendon injury on Doctson’s left foot limited his rookie year to two games.

Doctson will join Chad Beebe and rookie Olabisi Johnson at the wide receiver spots in Minnesota, backing up standouts Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Beebe and Thielen were both undrafted players who weren’t signed until emerging from a tryout at rookie minicamp. Johnson was a seventh-round draft pick this year, and Diggs was a fifth-round selection in 2015.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — For the fourth consecutive season, the Minnesota Vikings will take a kicker and punter pair into their opener that’s different than the year before. This time, their specialists, kicker Dan Bailey and punter Britton Colquitt, have a combined 17 seasons and counting of NFL experience. Colquitt will also serve as the holder, a role that was one part of the reason the Vikings signed him to replace Matt Wile. Colquitt spent the past three years with Cleveland after six seasons in Denver.
