CINCINNATI (AP) — Rookie Connor Phillips pitched three-hit ball over seven innings for his first major league win, Will Benson drove in three runs and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Minnesota Twins 7-3 in a game with postseason implications for both teams. Cincinnati won for the fifth time in seven games and trails Chicago by .0003 for the NL’s final wild-card berth, both a half-game behind Arizona. Miami dropped a half-game behind the Reds with a 2-1 loss to the New York Mets, Minnesota (79-72), nearing its third division title in five years, maintained a seven-game lead over Cleveland in the AL Central.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Minnesota shortstop Carlos Correa left Minnesota’s game at Cincinnati after one inning when he aggravated his left foot, which has plantar fasciitis. Correa bothered the foot when he made a sudden stop after catching TJ Friedl’s popup in short left field. Correa, the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year, sat out two days last week. He’s been dealing with the injury since May but he still leads the Twins in games played with 135. He is hitting .230.

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy has not lost confidence in his team despite an embarrassing home loss. The Cowboys are 2-1 after a 33-7 loss to South Alabama and open Big 12 play this week at Iowa State.
Gundy says the Cowboys need to be balanced on offense to be successful and can’t afford to fall behind early.
Gundy expects another tough game against Iowa State.
Gundy says there are similarities between these teams.
Kickoff on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium is scheduled for 3 o’clock.
FOREST CITY — Waldorf University in Forest City is moving to the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Corey Westra is commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference
Waldorf University president Bob Alsop says the move will reduce travel time for teams.

Waldorf is currently a member of the North Star Athletic Association and will join Iowa schools Morningside, Briar Cliff, Northwestern and Dordt in the GPAC.
