AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland — split doubleheader — game one pre-game 1:30, first pitch 2:10 — game two pre-game 6:00, first pitch 6:40

NEW YORK (AP) — Gary Sánchez lined a winning single in the 10th inning, and the New York Yankees overcame a five-run deficit to beat the Minnesota Twins 6-5 on Monday afternoon in a make-up game, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO. Aaron Judge hit a tying three-run homer off Alex Colomé with two outs in the eighth inning.  New York won for just the fourth time in 16 games following a 13-game winning streak and moved one percentage point ahead of Boston for the second AL wild-card berth. Gleyber Torres lost his shortstop job and was moved to second.

NEW YORK (AP) — Minnesota Twins starter John Gant lasted just 12 pitches against the New York Yankees, leaving after straining his lower abdomen. A 29-year-old right-hander, Gant retired DJ LeMahieu and Brett Gardner on ground-outs to start the bottom of the first and walked Aaron Judge on four pitches. Manager Rocco Baldelli and head athletic trainer Michael Salazar went to the mound, spoke briefly and Gant was removed. Gant is 1-3 with a 3.76 ERA in five starts and seven relief appearances.

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is pleased to see the future of the Big 12 Conference secured. The league added BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and Central Florida over the weekend to replace Texas and Oklahoma, who are bolting for the SEC.

It is still unclear as to when those schools will begin competing in the Big-12.

The Cyclones will be in bounce back mode this week. After a 27-17 loss to Iowa, ISU prepares to visit UNLV.

Kickoff in Las Vegas on Saturday night is scheduled for 9:30 Iowa time.

CEDAR FALLS — There may be a quarterback change at UNI. Panther coach Mark Farley replaced starter Will McElvain with Theo Day at halftime of the game at Sacramento State and the Michigan State transfer directed the Panthers to four third quarter touchdowns in a 34-16 win.

Farley made the change with the Panthers trailing 9-7 at halftime.

Farley will make a decision on the starter this week leading up to Saturday’s home opener against St. Thomas of Minnesota.

Kickoff at the UNI-Dome on Saturday is scheduled for 4 o’clock.
