IOWA CITY — Patience paid off for Iowa running back Jaziun Patterson. The redshirt freshman from Florida saw his most extensive action in a win at Iowa State and finished with 86 yards on the ground. His 59-yard run set up a field goal and later scored the Hawkeyes’ first touchdown on a four-yard run.

Patterson feels his style of running is a good compliment to sophomore Kaleb Johnson.

Patterson describes himself as a “downhill” runner.

He also provided a boost to the run game that struggled in the opener. The Hawkeyes finished with 112 yards of rushing against the Cyclones.

ATHENS, OHIO — Ohio coach Tim Albin says the offense will need to find a way to solve Iowa State’s defense this week. The Bobcats are 2-1 heading into Saturday’s home game against the Cyclones.

Albin says the Cyclones are consistently the best defense in the Big 12.

Albin says the Bobcats need to eliminate turnovers. They have committed eight in the first three games.

Iowa State beat Ohio 43-10 last year in Ames.

CEDAR FALLS — UNI coach Mark Farley says the Panthers need to find a way to protect quarterback Theo Day. In two games, Day has been sacked 10 times, including five in Saturday’s 34-17 loss to 9th-ranked Weber State.

Farley says they are exploring options to fix pass protection.

The Panthers have committed eight turnovers in the first two games and there is a sense of urgency to get things turned around as they get ready to visit Idaho State.

Idaho State is 0-2 after losses to San Diego State and Utah State.

Theo Day has five interceptions through two games but Farley still has confidence in his senior quarterback.

Idaho State has thrown for nearly 700 yards in its first two games and pass defense has been a weakness for UNI.
