IOWA CITY — The Iowa men took control late in the opening half and raced away to a 118-72 win over Truman State in exhibition play last night in Iowa City, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO. Truman State is coached by Mason City and University of Iowa alum Jeff Horner. Kris Murray had 24 points and Connor McCaffery triggered the first half run with four three pointers. The Hawkeyes were 14 of 25 from behind the arc.

Five different Hawkeyes scored in double figures and McCaffery feels depth will be a strength of this team.

Charles City and NIACC alum Bradley Andrews played just over five minutes for Truman State and scored two points. The Hawkeyes open the regular season next Monday against Bethune-Cookman.

CEDAR FALLS — UNI is receiving votes in the latest FCS top 25. The Panthers are coming off a thrilling 37-36 win at Southern Illinois and have won five of their last six heading into Saturday’s home finale against top ranked South Dakota State.

That’s UNI coach Mark Farley. The Panthers are 5-4 overall and Farley believes splitting the final two games will lock up an at-large bid into the FCS playoffs.

South Dakota State has won eight straight after a 7-3 loss at Iowa and the Jackrabbits have the second ranked defense in all of FCS.

Farley hopes the home field is an advantage on Saturday.

Kickoff at the UNI-Dome is scheduled for 4 o’clock.

WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA — Purdue coach Jeff Brohm says limiting mistakes and getting the lead is important against Iowa. The Boilermakers have dominated the recent series against Iowa, winning four of the last five and during that stretch averaged better than 26 points per game.

Brohm says the Hawkeyes are coming off their best offensive performance of the year in a win over Northwestern.

Former Iowa receivers Tyrone Tracy and Charlie Jones transferred to Purdue after last season. Jones has caught 72 passes, including nine touchdowns. Tracy has 24 catches.

Kickoff on Saturday between Purdue and Iowa is scheduled for 11 o’clock, with the pre-game at 9 o’clock on AM-1300 KGLO
