FORT DODGE — Central Springs and Newman play in the state softball quarterfinal round today at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge:

== For the Knights, they’ll face top-seeded and top-ranked Collins-Maxwell in the Class 1A quarterfinals. Newman coach Tom Dunn says it’s great to be able to take his team to the state tournament.

Dunn says with the shortened season, anything is possible in state tournament play.

Dunn says the pandemic has made the season interesting for all the softball teams in the state, including his.

Dunn says his team knows they’ll have a challenge in facing Collins-Maxwell pitcher Makayla Houge.

The Panthers are 17-3 and are led offensively by sophomores Madisyn Kelley and Kaylea Fessler. Kelley is batting .536 with eight homers and 26 runs batted in, while Fessler is batting .493 with five homers and 27 RBI. Northeast is 19-2 and led by senior Bree Mangelsen, who is hitting .538 with 30 RBI. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings vice president of sports medicine Eric Sugarman has tested positive for COVID-19. Sugarman is in charge of the organization’s virus prevention plan as the infection control officer. The team announced that Sugarman and his family tested positive over the weekend. Sugarman said they’re experiencing only mild symptoms. The Vikings said they’ve tested all individuals who’d recently been in close contact with Sugarman. He had not had any recent contact with players. No other cases have been reported to date within the front office.
