MASON CITY — For the second straight game, Chett Helming and Myles Tucker both scored at least 20 points to lead the NIACC men’s basketball team to a victory. Helming and Tucker both scored 20 last night to lift the Trojans to an 83-77 win over the Luther College junior varsity in a non-conference contest in the NIACC gym. Back on Saturday, Helming and Tucker both scored 29 in NIACC’s win over 11th-ranked Kirkwood. Also for NIACC last night, Jaydin Dunlap and Kenny Quinn each had 10. NIACC is 8-11 overall and will host conference-leading 16th-ranked Iowa Lakes on Wednesday night in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference contest.

AMES — Two of the contenders in the Big 12 Conference collide tonight in Hilton Coliseum when 12th-ranked Iowa State hosts #7 Texas. Both teams are 4-1 in the league race and this will mark the return of Longhorn guard Tyrese Hunter. He was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year for the Cyclones last season before transferring to Texas.

That’s Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger who is not sure how the crowd will react to Hunter’s return.

It is a game between two of the teams that expect to be in the title chase.

Otzelberger says defense will be a key against Texas.

Tipoff at Hilton Coliseum is scheduled for 7 o’clock.

OSAGE — Osage remains top-ranked in Class 2A in the latest Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association dual team rankings. The Green Devils have been on top in each poll so far this season. Sergeant Bluff-Luton is second, followed by West Delaware third. Other teams from area schools and conferences in the Class 2A rankings include Webster City being 6th, Humboldt 7th, Algona 16th, and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 18th. In Class 1A, Don Bosco is the top team followed by Wilton and Alburnett. Nashua-Plainfield is 4th, Lake Mills is 11th, and West Hancock is 14th. In Class 3A, Southeast Polk is top-ranked followed by Bettendorf and Waverly-Shell Rock. You can see the full rankings below.
