Trees to be planted on Monroe Avenue in Mason City Wednesday

MASON CITY — The City of Mason City is partnering with students of the Mason City Community School District later this week to plant about 130 trees along North Monroe Avenue.

Planting will start at 8:30 Wednesday morning at the intersection of 12th and North Monroe, continuing south on Monroe to State Highway 122. The public is invited to volunteer with the tree planting, and if you are interested to arrive at the west side of Monroe Park by 8:30 AM and dress appropriately for the weather and planting conditions.

City staff is asking motorists to avoid this area between the hours of 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM if at all possible, and if you need to travel on Monroe Avenue to use caution and slow down for students and staff.

If there’s inclement weather, the tree planting will be held on Thursday.

The trees were obtained through Trees for Kids, Community Forestry, and Branching Out grants in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Alliant Energy.
