TONIGHT:
AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City — pre-game 6:00, first pitch 6:40

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Sonny Gray cruised through seven sharp innings and the Minnesota Twins, despite losing AL batting leader Luis Arraez to an early injury, beat the Kansas City Royals 4-0. Gary Sánchez had a two-run double and Carlos Correa a couple hits for Minnesota, five games behind AL Central-leading Cleveland with 21 games remaining. Arraez got an infield hit, raising his average to .320, and scored in the first, then left after the inning with left hamstring tightness. Acquired from Cincinnati in March, Gray has been a top-of-the-rotation guy for Minnesota all season. He breezed through the Kansas City lineup much of the night, allowing three hits and striking out eight.

OSAGE — The Osage football team has forfeited their win last week over MFL-Mar-Mac due to a player exceeding the maximum number of quarters played in a day. The Green Devils had a player play two quarters of a junior varsity game prior to the varsity contest, where the player played in all four quarters. Iowa High School Athletic Association rules only allow an individual to play in a total of five quarters in a calendar day. Osage self-reported the issue to the Iowa High School Athletic Association this week, with their 28-22 win being turned into a 1-0 loss. Osage now has an overall record of 1-2 heading into Class 2A District 3 play on Friday night as they’ll travel to Clear Lake.

IOWA CITY — Iowa corner Riley Moss says the defense can always find ways to improve. Iowa State put together a game changing 99-yard touchdown drive a week ago, the only touchdown the Hawks have allowed this season.

Moss says the Hawkeyes have moved on to the next challenge.

Moss says he has tuned out the criticism of the Iowa offense on social media.

Kickoff at Kinnick Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 on Saturday night, with the pre-game at 4:30 on AM-1300 KGLO.

AMES — Iowa State linebacker Colby Reeder says there will be no letdown this weekend when the Cyclones host Ohio. The Delaware transfer was the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week after registering four tackles and an interception in a 10-7 win at Iowa. Reeder says the approach has not changed.

Reeder says the Cyclones are aware of what can happen if they are not ready.

Reeder says they are focused on this week and not the upcoming Big 12 opener against defending champion Baylor.

Kickoff at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday is scheduled for 1 o’clock.

MASON CITY — The NIACC volleyball team had a three sets to nothing sweep at Southeastern last night, 26-24, 25-19 and 26-24. Kaylee Ollendieck had 13 digs and one ace, Tiegan Barkeman had 11 kills, seven digs and one block, while Alyssa Wickersheim had nine kills and six digs to lead NIACC. NIACC is now 4-12 overall and 2-1 in the conference and will host the Dakota County Technical College and Marshalltown Community College as part of a triangular on Friday.

BLAINE MINNESOTA — The North Iowa Bulls opened up the regular season with a 5-0 win over the Wisconsin Windigo last night on the first day of the North American Hockey League Showcase at the National Sports Center Super Rink in Blaine Minnesota. Erik Chaffe had a 19-save shutout for the Bulls. Joe Sweeney, Max Scott, Justin Mexico and Cayden Casey each had a goal and an assist for North Iowa. The Bulls turn around to face the Shreveport Mudbugs this afternoon.
