AMES, Iowa (AP) — Former DePaul guard Jalen Coleman-Lands is joining Iowa State as a graduate transfer. He averaged 11.1 points per game for the Blue Demons last season. He will be eligible immediately pending his graduation from DePaul. Coleman-Lands began his career at Illinois, where he led the team in 3-pointers made in each of his two seasons. The Indianapolis native was granted a sixth year by the NCAA in early April after sitting out the 2017-18 season as a transfer and being limited to just nine games in 2018-19 because of injury.

NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball players appeared likely to propose more regular-season games this year while holding to their demand for full prorated salaries, people familiar with their deliberations tell The Associated Press. A day after Major League Baseball proposed a sliding scale of salary slashing for a pandemic-delayed season with an 82-game schedule in ballparks without fans, the union held a conference call Wednesday that included its executive board, player representatives and alternate player representatives, the people said. One of the people said many players were angered by the proposal teams made Tuesday. It was unclear when the union will respond to MLB’s plan, the people said.

DES MOINES — The Great Plains Athletic Conference is planning on offering a fall sports season. GPAC commissioner Corey Westra says they have formed a task force to look at a return from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Westra says students must return to campus for athletics to be offered in the fall.

Westra says the NAIA has set a July first target date for a decision on fall sports.

Westra wants a task force to come up with recommendations before the end of June.

Morningside, Briar Cliff, Dordt and Northwestern are all members of the GPAC.

SIOUX CITY — Shelby Houlihan is still hopeful there will be an outdoor track and field season even if it is an abbreviated one. The Sioux City native was a double winner at the last two U-S Championships and was favored to compete at the Tokyo Olympics which were moved to next year. USA Track and Field sanctioned events have been suspended but the possibility still exists of holding a national championship meet.

Houlihan expects her first meet to be in the United States.

Houlihan is training in Portland and says among the changes in her training is she has not been able to train at altitude yet.

Houlihan says she has enjoyed training without the need to get ready for a race.
