TONIGHT:
AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees — pre-game 6:00, first pitch 6:40

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins cruised to an 8-1 victory that stopped the Yankees’ seven-game winning streak. Byron Buxton and Ryan Jeffers each hit home runs in the fifth inning off Nestor Cortes to send the New York left-hander to an early exit. Cortes allowed season highs in hits with seven and runs with four. He went 4 2/3 innings in his shortest appearance of the year that also knocked him out of the major league ERA lead. The Twins scored one more run than the Yankees allowed combined over their streak.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reinstated shortstop Carlos Correa from the COVID-19 injured list. The move was made before their game against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. It was a small but significant step toward restoring their depleted roster to full strength. Correa missed eight games. He tested positive while the team was in Detroit. The AL Central-leading Twins still have 13 players on the injured list. Right-hander Joe Ryan remains on the COVID-19 injured list. He’s one of seven starting pitchers currently sidelined. Ryan will make a rehab start in Triple-A on Thursday.

MASON CITY — Doug Taylor knocked in two runs while Tim Castle was 2-for-2 with two runs scored as #2/1A Newman downed Central Springs 4-1 last night in Top of Iowa Conference East Division play. Max Burt pitched a complete-game two-hitter, striking out seven in picking up the win. Newman is now 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference and will face East Division co-leader St. Ansgar on Friday night in St. Ansgar. The Saints are 7-0 in the conference after a 13-1 win over Northwood-Kensett last night

GREEN BAY — Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers says former Iowa State star Allen Lazard is ready for a larger role. Lazard is in a contract dispute and is not taking part in minicamp this week. The Packers lost top receiver Devante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Packers have several new faces at receiver heading into next season.

Lazard had 40 catches, including eight for touchdowns last season, his fourth in Green Bay.
