MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rich Hill pitched five scoreless innings in a smooth Minnesota debut and the Twins beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0. Eddie Rosario homered, Nelson Cruz had an RBI double and Alex Avila had an RBI single for the Twins. Taylor Rogers pitched a perfect ninth for his first save, and the Twins finished a two-game sweep to improve to 4-1. The 40-year-old Hill is currently the second-oldest player in the majors. He needed 68 pitches to pick up his first victory for the Twins. Minnesota signed him this winter with the assumption he’d be ready around midsummer after his recovery from elbow surgery.

CEDAR FALLS — AJ Green is returning to the Northern Iowa basketball team. Green officially withdrew his name from the NBA Draft on Wednesday after declaring as an early entrant in late April. Green was the Missouri Valley Conference’s Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points per game and leading UNI to a 25-6 record and the Valley’s regular season title.

CEDAR RAPIDS — While most Division III conferences have canceled fall sports the American Rivers Conference is planning to move ahead with reduced schedules for fall sports. Chuck Yrigoyen is commissioner of the league.

Yrigoyen says school presidents felt it was worth the effort to give fall sports a shot.

He says the next step is to develop a schedule for fall sports.

The American Rivers Conference features eight Iowa schools — Buena Vista, Central, Coe, Dubuque, Loras, Luther, Simpson and Wartburg — as well as Nebraska Wesleyan.

UNDATED (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo, linebacker Cameron Smith and offensive tackle Oli Udoh on their reserve list for COVID-19. That brings the team’s total on the list to seven players. Smith and Udoh were 2019 draft picks. Odenigbo is in line to take over as a starter, with the departure of 10-year veteran Everson Griffen. The reserve list was created by the NFL for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons.
