CHICAGO (AP) — Max Kepler homered in his second straight game, Jorge Polanco also went deep, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 on Wednesday night. The Twins beat the AL Central leaders for just the fourth time in 16 games. They bounced back after Chicago rallied late to win Tuesday’s game and came out on top after losing five of six. Michael Pineda (4-5) went five innings, allowing one run and four hits, in his first win since May 26. The Twins return home to Target Field for the first time since the All-Star Break with a week-long homestand that starts with a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels. We’ll join tonight’s game on AM-1300 KGLO after Central Springs softball.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Two people familiar with the proposal say the University of Iowa plans to name the field at Kinnick Stadium for Duke Slater. He was a trailblazing Black player who was an All-American tackle a century ago. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the plan to honor Slater hasn’t been announced. The Iowa Board of Regents is set to consider and approve “a proposed facility naming” at a meeting next week. No details about the agenda item have been released.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The first increment of the $1.5 billion sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves to e-commerce mogul Marc Lore and former baseball star Alex Rodriguez has been approved by the NBA. Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor issued a statement confirming the transaction and welcoming Lore and Rodriguez to the organization. The deal includes the WNBA team Minnesota Lynx. It was structured to begin with an initial transfer of 20% of the club this year. Lore and Rodriguez will then have the right to purchase an additional 20% share in 2022 and an additional 40% share in 2023, when they would become controlling owners.
UNDATED (AP) — Louis Oosthuizen has tried to quickly pivot to his next opportunity after letting a major title slip away for the third time this year. He’s hoping the disappointment of losing the final-round lead last weekend were left behind at the British Open. The South African is in Minnesota this week for the 3M Open. The tournament begins Thursday at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, a suburb of Minneapolis. Oosthuizen is ranked ninth in the world. He’s one of six players in the 3M Open field who turned down a spot in the Olympics.
