MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Miguel Sanó has finally joined the Minnesota Twins on the field, after a frustrating wait to be cleared following his quarantine for a positive coronavirus test. Sanó is switching to first base this season. He took part in his first workouts of summer camp on Wednesday. Sanó tested positive for the virus upon arrival in Minnesota from the Dominican Republic two weeks ago, despite never feeling any symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. He was relegated to hitting off a tee and doing agility work in his basement.

IOWA CITY — Iowa basketball player CJ Fredrick will be sidelined from summer workouts for six weeks. The redshirt sophomore underwent surgery on his right foot to fix a stress fracture. Fredrick started all 25 games he appeared in last season and was named to the All Big Ten Freshman team after leading the conference in three point field goal percentage at just over 46 percent. He finished third on the team in scoring at 10.2 points per game.

AMES — Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy says he has plenty of areas to improve upon as he gets ready for his junior season. Purdy is coming off a sophomore season in which he passed for nearly four thousand yards and 27 touchdowns as the Cyclones made it to their third straight bowl game.

Purdy also threw nine interceptions and had some key fumbles as the Cyclones finished a minus three in turnover margin.

Purdy has spent the offseason trying to learn to better handle pressure.

Purdy was named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O”Brien Award. It is given to the nation’s top quarterback.
