Three injured when transit bus hits vehicle in Mason City grocery store parking lot

MASON CITY — A medical emergency is cited as the cause of an accident back on Friday between a transit bus and another vehicle in a Mason City store parking lot.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 10:40 Friday morning in the HyVee West parking lot when the driver of the transit bus, 69-year-old Terry Wolters of Mason City, suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle, with the vehicle swerving left into the path of another vehicle driven by 76-year-old Bobby Dirks of Mason City. The bus then hit a tree in the parking lot. The other vehicle came to rest facing west.

Wolters, along with Dirks and a passenger in Dirks’ vehicle, 77-year-old Joyce Dirks of Mason City, were taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment.
