The FDA has issued a nationwide recall of broccoli, carrots, and other vegetables because of E. Coli contamination

On December 2, the FDA issued a recall notice for various brands of vegetables and whole carrots. This recall is connected to the previous recall by Grimmway Farms. The new list of affected products comes from 4Earth Farms, a distributor based in Commerce, California. They supply packaged vegetable medleys to several grocery stores, including Walmart, Albert’s Organics, and Sprouts Farmers Market.

4Earth Farms initiated a voluntary recall after discovering that the carrots sourced from Grimmway Farms and used in their mixed veggie line might be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli bacteria. This recall has been expanded due to the precautionary recall of other products containing Grimmway Farms produce.

The latest recall specifies the following packages:

The products were distributed to various states, including New Hampshire, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado. They were distributed to both retail stores and distributors. You can find photos of the packages here.

Customers should not have to worry about purchasing these affected vegetables, as they have already expired for at least three weeks. The best-by dates on these vegetables range from Sept. 7, 2024, to Nov. 2, 2024. However, it is recommended by the FDA that consumers check their refrigerators or freezers for any remaining produce from the recall list. It is important to dispose of these packages and sanitize any surfaces they may have come into contact with, as E. coli is a serious concern. If you are worried about potential exposure to the bacteria, it is advised to seek medical advice from a professional.

The incubation period of E. coli can range from less than 24 hours to 10 days. If you have consumed these products within that timeframe, it is important to watch out for symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and high fever.

4Earth Farms has stated that it has not received any reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of its products. The ongoing outbreak connected to Grimmway Farms has been associated with 39 illnesses, which includes 15 hospitalizations and one fatality.

If you have any questions about the recall, please feel free to reach out to 4Earth Farms at 855-918-1706. Their customer service team is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT.
