Surf District Streetscape, Wangberg Bandshell improvement contracts to be considered by Clear Lake council tonight

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake’s City Council tonight will consider awarding bid contracts on two major projects:

== The council will consider awarding a form of contract for the Surf District Streetscape Improvement project. The project includes the construction of an over-the-road gateway feature, masonry pier features, roadway lighting and electrical, storm sewer upgrades, roadway paving, pedestrian unit paving plazas, and associated site improvements along Buddy Holly Place, North Shore Drive and 7th Avenue North surrounding the Surf Ballroom. Three bids were received for the project with Dean Snyder Construction of Clear Lake having the lowest bid at $4.28 million. The targeted cost of the project was $3.8 million, and City Administrator Scott Flory in a memo to the council says city staff, the project consultant and the contractor have been working to identify areas where reductions in the project could be made to bring the cost closer to what the city had estimated.

== The council will also consider the form of contract for the Ludvig Wangberg Municipal Bandshell improvement project. Dean Snyder Construction also had the lower of the two bids received for the project at $754,000, above the estimated cost of $650,000. The project schedule calls for construction to begin on the Lakeview Room upgrades later this month and for those to be completed by Memorial Day. The remaining improvements to the bandshell would begin after the summer tourist season and be completed by November 1st.

The Clear Lake City Council meets at City Hall starting at 5:30 this evening.
