Sendoff set for Mason City-based 1133rd Transportation Company Iowa National Guard unit

MASON CITY — A sendoff ceremony has been scheduled for the Iowa National Guard’s 1133rd Transportation Company in Mason City as part of Operation European Assure, Deter and Reinforce.

The Iowa National Guard says the ceremony will take place on Sunday morning November 6th at 9:00 AM in the All-Seasons Building at the North Iowa Events Center.

Operation European Assure, Deter and Reinforce is part of the United States’ commitment to international order and security of NATO allies. The 1133rd Transportation Company will deploy to Poland and transport equipment and supplies in support of U.S. and NATO forces.

The unit was last activated into federal service in 2008 to support Operations Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism.

The 1133rd Transportation Company will travel to their mobilization station at Fort Hood, Texas, to complete final training and readiness checks before deploying overseas. The unit is expected to be gone for about a year.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony.
