Second phase of Monroe Avenue reconstruction project gets underway today in Mason City
MASON CITY — Mason City’s mayor is warning motorists about the second phase of a major road construction project beginning today. In a social media posting this morning,
Bill Schickel says the next part of the Monroe Avenue project is starting. “Use caution and expect delays while traveling this morning on the west side of downtown. The much-needed Monroe Avenue upgrade, it starts at the intersection of State Highway 122 and it extends north all the way to 12th Street. These improvements to the street, the utilities, the lighting, they are being done in stages, we are doing that in order to avoid closing the entire length. The second stage between Willow Creek and 2nd Street Northwest, that’s underway this morning.”
Schickel says one key intersection on Monroe is closing as of today, while another is being re-opened to traffic. “First Street Southwest, that’s by the old Wareco station, has been re-opened, while First Street Northwest is closed, near the UP rail crossing.”
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in November.
