Rural Clear Lake garage fire caused by fireworks

CLEAR LAKE — A garage fire in rural Clear Lake Monday afternoon was caused by fireworks.

The Clear Lake and Ventura Fire Departments were called to 10405 220th Street shortly before 1:50 PM. On arrival, a non-attached garage was fully involved in fire and was destroyed. The homeowner’s house received heat damage to the exterior siding while the other exposed building on the property did not sustain any damage.

Clear Lake Fire Chief Doug Meyers says damage was estimated at $25,000 to the building and $10,000 to the contents. He says the cause of the fire was determined to be from detonated fireworks into the building.

The property is owned by Christopher Doane and is covered by insurance. There were no injuries reported.
