A man in Blue Springs, Missouri was mistakenly shot by his 72-year-old roommate, who thought he was an intruder. Fortunately, no charges will be filed against the roommate. The man was treated for his gunshot wound.

The Jackson County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at around 4:10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1. Emergency crews promptly responded to the incident, which occurred in an unincorporated area of the county southeast of I-435 and Truman Rd., specifically in the vicinity of Spring Ave. and E. 20th St.

Upon the arrival of first responders, they discovered a 49-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his forearm and hand. Shockingly, it was revealed that his 72-year-old roommate had mistaken him for an intruder and fired a shot through the front door of their residence.

Law enforcement officials reported that the victim of the shooting was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment for their injuries, which were determined to be non-life-threatening. Following a thorough review of the case, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office concluded that no charges would be filed.

No additional details have been disclosed.
