Safer Gambling Week 2024

Safer Gambling Week 2024 successfully urged a larger number of participants to utilize responsible gambling tools, witnessing a 22% rise in total usage compared to the preceding year’s initiative.

The <a href=”https://safergamblinguk.org/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>eighth Safer Gambling Week was held from November 18 to 24, centering on <a href=”https://igamingbusiness.com/sustainable-gambling/responsible-gambling/safer-gambling-week-2024-responsible-betting/#:~:text=Now%20in%20its%20eighth%20year,Bacta)%20and%20the%20Bingo%20Association.” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>advocating responsible betting and disseminating best practices. This includes proliferating safer gambling messages both digitally and within physical venues.

The campaign now extends across entire Europe. In the UK, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), Bingo Association, and British Amusement Catering Trade Association collectively orchestrate the initiative.

<a href=”https://bettingandgamingcouncil.com/news/safer-gambling-week-sparks-another-surge-in-safer-gambling-tools-use” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Revealing data from the 2024 iteration, the BGC stated that 1.5 million unique accounts employed tools during the week, significantly surpassing the <a href=”https://igamingbusiness.com/sustainable-gambling/responsible-gambling/safer-gambling-week/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>prior year.

The quantity of deposit limits established throughout the campaign also escalated by 14% year-on-year. The BGC mentions that during the period, 47% of players set limits for the first instance.

Among other significant data, 7.2 million safer gambling messages were disseminated to customers during the week, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.

Simultaneously, new records were established on social media. The campaign generated over 60 million impressions on major platforms X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, marking a 21% increase year-on-year.

Moreover, the Safer Gambling Week website recorded over half a million visits during the week. The site imparts help, advice, and guidance on safer gambling tools like deposit limits and timeouts.

“Once again, it has proven its value by motivating an increasing number of punters to leverage the wide array of safer gambling tools available exclusively in the regulated sector,†stated BGC CEO Grainne Hurst.

“These fresh statistics bear testimony to its continued success and this industry’s dedication to improving standards and ensuring that the millions of customers who indulge in regular betting do so in a safe and responsible environment.â€

Expanded support for Safer Gambling Week

In addition to the organizations that manage the campaign, the initiative garnered support from other quarters.

Prominent cross-party MPs and Peers, including Minister for Gambling Baroness Twycross, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Stuart Andrew, and Shadow Sport and Gambling Minister Louie French, endorsed the campaign.

The Gambling Commission and its chief executive, Andrew Rhodes, expressed their backing for the initiative. Premier League football clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Southampton also contributed to promoting the project.

“Our members advocate safer gaming throughout the year, but a dedicated week that unites the entire sector with backing from MPs, peers, the regulator, and other stakeholders, amplifies that effort in an exceptionally potent manner,†Hurst added.
