SAINT ANSGAR — There was no school in the St. Ansgar Community School District today due to a potential threat.
Administrators received a potential threat to the schools at around 5 o’clock on Sunday evening. The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department was immediately contacted and an investigation deemed the threat was not credible.
After initially planning to have classes today with a police presence in the schools, it was later decided that classes would be canceled out of an abundance of caution and to ease the concerns of parents and students in light of recent events. The district says that decision was not made due to an ongoing threat, but student and staff safety was their top concern, including psychological safety.
An investigation by school officials and law enforcement into the threat is ongoing.
