Police: Man Dies After Being Shot While Attempting To Steal Car In Philadelphia

According to the authorities, a man lost his life in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood after being shot while attempting to steal a vehicle.

The incident took place at approximately 3:08 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street.

According to the police, a 29-year-old man had left his Honda running while he was using the ATM. It was during this time that a 48-year-old suspect took advantage of the situation and swiftly jumped into the car, subsequently driving away.

The suspect was hit in the head when the car owner fired a gunshot.

According to the police, the injured man collided the vehicle with another car at Pratt Street outside the Frankford Transportation Center.

Jacques Sylvain was filled with fear as he witnessed the Honda approaching his cab at high speed.

“I vividly remember the car approaching in a zig-zag pattern, heading straight towards me,” he reminisced.

The nearby surveillance video captured the terrifying moments when officers swiftly placed the man in the back of a police car and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he did not survive.

Brianna Colter, who works nearby, was a firsthand witness to the chaos.

“I initially believed that the man was experiencing a seizure or some other medical condition. Little did I know that there was more to the situation,” she reminisced.

There were no other reported injuries.

The police are currently questioning the owner of the car who possessed a valid permit to carry.

If you witnessed the shooting, please contact the police at 215-686-TIPS.
