Plea change hearing set for Charles City man accused of sexual abuse

CHARLES CITY — A plea change hearing has been scheduled for a Charles City man accused of sexual abuse.

38-year-old Odail Donary Zavala-Ventura was arrested in September and charged with third-degree sexual abuse. A criminal complaint states that Zavala-Ventura allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl at his Charles City home on September 4th of last year.

His trial was scheduled to start today in Floyd County District Court, but court records show that Zavala-Ventura filed an Alford plea on Monday to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.

A formal plea change & sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 26th.
