MASON CITY — One of two men in a stopped vehicle were arrested on Friday night after a traffic stop in Mason City.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says they conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of North Adams, where a deputy saw a sawed-off shotgun in the back seat.

One of the two men in the vehicle, 31-year-old Marcus Jones of St. Paul, fled from the scene on foot, and while exiting, a loaded .45 caliber handgun fell onto the ground.

The passenger in the back seat, 35-year-old Carlos Cooper of Mason City, was charged with carrying weapons, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and third-offense possession of marijuana.

A third person in the vehicle was not charged. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Jones is asked to call law enforcement.
