The total commercial revenue for April reached $558.7 million, reflecting growth across various forms of legal gaming. While this surpassed the $504.7 million from the same month last year, it fell short by 2.8% compared to the record of $574.5 million achieved in March.

Recent trends continued in April, with iGaming being the primary driver of revenue growth, as per the information provided by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Sports betting revenue remained stable year-on-year, while the performance of the land-based market showed mixed results, with a decline in slots revenue but an increase in table games revenue.

Nearly Achieving a Record iGaming Revenue Volume

In the iGaming sector, revenue from online slots, table games, and poker combined to reach $227.7 million in April, marking a 31.3% increase from the previous year and coming close to the record set in March by just 4.4%.

Revenue from online slots surged by 34.5% to $169.5 million, while online table games revenue grew by 24.2% to $55.9 million. Online poker contributed an additional $2.3 million, experiencing a slight decrease of 2.8%.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and its online gaming partners maintained their lead in the iGaming sector, generating revenue of $83.2 million in April, a 33.5% increase.

Valley Forge Casino Resort followed in second place with $66.7 million, showing a rise of 38.8%, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia secured the third spot with $35.9 million, up by 17.1%.

Stable Sports Betting Scenario in Pennsylvania

In the realm of sports betting, revenue reached $42.5 million in April, slightly surpassing the previous year’s figures and exceeding the performance in March. Online betting revenue amounted to $41.2 million, with retail contributing $1.4 million.

The total monthly handle in Pennsylvania reached $711.6 million, showcasing a 10.1% increase from the previous year and outperforming the results from March. The statewide hold percentage stood at 5.97%.

FanDuel, in partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort, retained its position as the market leader by generating $20.1 million in gross revenue from a $269.8 million handle, resulting in a hold of 7.45%.

DraftKings, tied to Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, secured the second position with $12.1 million from $185.6 million, holding at 6.52%. Bet365, associated with Presque Isle Downs and Casino, took third place with $1.9 million from $34.2 million, maintaining a hold of 5.56%.

Other notable performers included Hollywood Casino at Penn National and ESPN Bet, generating $1.7 million from $32.1 million, and BetMGM, in partnership with Hollywood Casino Morgantown, with $1.5 million from $60.1 million.

Varied Developments in Land-Based Gambling

Within the retail sector, land-based slots remain the primary source of gambling revenue in Pennsylvania, despite generating $203.1 million in April, a 1.2% decrease from the previous year. However, revenue from retail table games saw a 2.8% increase, reaching $80.6 million.

Revenue from video gaming terminals at licensed truck stop locations experienced a 3.6% decline, while fantasy sports revenue saw a modest uptick of 2.3% to reach $1.3 million.

April saw legal gambling activities contribute $234.5 million to Pennsylvania’s tax revenue, with significant portions coming from iGaming, sports betting, land-based slots, and retail table games.
