Danske Spil has introduced Lars Krarup, the former mayor of the Herning Municipality, as its new chairman.
Krarup will officially start his new position on 3 June. His selection was recommended by the Ministry of Finance, given that the state in Denmark owns 81% of Danske Spil.
Krarup, who served over 19.5 years as mayor of Herning, also holds the position of chair at Realdania, a private association that backs architecture and planning projects in Denmark.
Prior to this, he led Team Danmark, a government-funded entity supporting elite sports, and chaired Sport Event Denmark, which aims to attract major sporting events to the country.
Additionally, Krarup has experience as a board member at KommuneKredit, a specialized credit institution, and the local government association KL.
Krarup to Concentrate on Charitable Initiatives
Regarding his appointment, Krarup mentioned he has observed how Danske Spil’s funds can benefit the community. Team Danmark, where he worked for five years, receives support from Danske Spil.
“Through my roles as mayor and in sports, I have directly witnessed how Danske Spil’s profits help various communities,” expressed Krarup. “It is an honor to contribute to ensuring the financial support for Danish associations and numerous charitable causes.
“Danske Spil plays a vital social role. Not only does the company unite 1.9 million Danes annually around the aspiration of winning for the community’s benefit, but it also showcases that profitability and accountability coexist as Danske Spil paves the way for a more responsible gaming industry.”
The company also affirmed that Charlotte Bach will continue as its vice-chairman. Bach, who also leads the Danish sports organization DGI, was initially appointed to the position in 2022.
