Neighborhoods to be one focus of “State of City Address” tonight in Mason City

MASON CITY — The City Council in Mason City will hold their first meeting of the new year tonight, and with that comes the annual “State of the City” address. By city code, the city’s mayor is required to annually report to the council and the city about the municipal affairs of the city and recommend the adoption of measures that he sees advisable.

When asked about what issues would be addressed in this year’s speech during a recent edition of the “Ask the Mayor” program on AM-1300 KGLO, Mayor Bill Schickel said he wants to talk about making the city’s neighborhoods flourish.  “I said many times before that the most important part of the city is within 100 feet of your own home. The vibrancy that we’ve seen in the immediate downtown area, we want to work on expanding that to the entire community through getting to know your neighbor, through helping your neighbor, and partnering with the police, that’s the other thing, because safety obviously is essential to flourishing neighborhoods.”

Schickel will give his annual “State of the City” address at the City Council meeting tonight at 7 o’clock in the Mason City Room of the Public Library. You can also watch the meeting online by heading to masoncity.net.
