More details discovered about car pulled from Clear Lake August 9th
CLEAR LAKE — More information has been released on the submerged vehicle that was recovered and removed from Clear Lake earlier this month.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says the vehicle recovered on August 9th is a 1982 Oldsmobile Firenza with a license plate from Cerro Gordo County. At the time of the recovery, the vehicle was found unoccupied and contained several items used for ice fishing.
Further investigation reveals that the vehicle was reported stolen to the Mason City Police Department in February 1996. The owner reported the vehicle was taken from a Mason City business parking lot while the owner was inside the business.
Investigators were able to contact the owner who said the car was unlocked and running when stolen. The owner confirmed the vehicle had never been located until it was pulled from the lake.
The Sheriff’s Department says the investigation into the incident is continuing, but no criminal charges are anticipated.
