IOWA CITY — Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says he has spoken to several former players to discuss alleged racial disparities within the program. An independent review of the strength and conditioning program is underway and longtime strength coach Chris Doyle has been placed on administrative leave after several former Hawkeyes players made accusations on social media.

Ferentz is putting together an advisory committee of former players in the hopes problems like this don’t go undetected.

Ferentz was asked if there is a “culture of fear” in the program that prevented players from speaking out until they left the program.

Ferentz says he has discussed all facets of the program with former players, even his effectiveness as head coach.

Doyle released a statement on Sunday saying there have been statements about his behavior that are not true and that he does not make racist comments and does not tolerate anyone who does.

IOWA CITY — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says there are a lot of new guidelines in place as veteran players begin returning to the football facility to begin voluntary workouts.

Players, coaches and staff will be monitored as they enter the facility and workouts will be spaced out to allow for cleaning.

Ferentz says it is critical everyone takes the steps needed to promote safety.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Another season of setback and tumult has mercifully ended for the Minnesota Timberwolves. This one was a strange ending, after the NBA’s decision this week to resume virus-halted play with 22 teams. That left the Timberwolves out, with a 19-45 record that was the third-worst in the league. They’ll have two first-round picks for the draft that is now scheduled for October. In the meantime, a critical offseason awaits. President of basketball operations Gersson Rosas overturned more than half of the roster in the winter, with more changes likely to come.
