CLINTON — Clinton LumberKings General Manager Ted Tornow says there will be baseball in the city next year even if the franchise is not affiliated with a Major League club. The LumberKings are reportedly one of nearly four dozen teams targeted for contraction as part of a new Professional Baseball Agreement. The minor league season was officially canceled last week due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tornow says there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the fate of the 42 teams on the contraction list.

Tornow is not sure when a new agreement will be finalized.

The LumberKings are the lone remaining charter member of the Midwest League which began play in 1956.
