TONIGHT:
AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins vs. Texas — pre-game 5:30, first pitch 6:10

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Marcus Semien and Nathaniel Lowe homered, Kohei Arihara pitched a career-high six innings and combined with Taylor Hearn for the shutout, and the Texas Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins 7-0. Minnesota starter Joe Ryan held Texas hitless for the first three innings before Semien led off the fourth with his 19th home run of the season. Arihara (1-1) gave up four hits and pitched into the seventh inning for the first time in his career. Ryan (9-6) allowed just two hits and two runs, but he walked three and was done after 6 1/3 innings.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota completed its Hall of Fame weekend by inducting former outfielder Dan Gladden and utility man César Tovar, a day after an induction ceremony for former manager Ron Gardenhire. Gladden was the leadoff hitter for the World Series-winning teams in 1987 and 1991. He played five seasons for the Twins and has spent the past 22 as a radio broadcaster for the team. Tovar spent eight seasons with the Twins, hitting .281 with 186 steals, which are third all-time for the team. In 1968, he became just the second player in history to play all nine positions in the same game.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Nate Sudfeld led a 14-play, 79-yard drive for a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the San Francisco 49ers beat the Minnesota Vikings 17-7. Sudfeld started and went 13 of 17 passing for 102 yards in the competition with rookie Brock Purdy to back up quarterback Trey Lance. Second-year quarterback Kellen Mond started for Minnesota and finished 10 of 20 for 82 yards and two interceptions. Mond and Sean Mannion are competing to back up Kirk Cousins. Both teams sat nearly all their projected first-team players after coming off a week of joint practices.

IOWA CITY — A veteran Iowa football team enters the season unranked and much of the reason is an anemic offense that ranked 13th in the Big Ten in total offense last year. Quarterback Spencer Petras threw for nearly 1900 yards last season and completed just over 57% of his passes.

Petras says the Hawkeyes hope to improve in all phases on offense.

Petras hopes the offense can make strides heading into the opener.

The Iowa offense averaged just under 24 points per game in 2021. Offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz.

Ferentz says the run and pass games need to be better.

The Hawkeyes open September 3rd at home against South Dakota State
